From mid-August to mid-October, 3 observation zones made it possible to monitor most of the Egyptian vultures and other birds of prey migrating around the Eastern coast of the Mediterranean sea. 106731 birds , of which 813 Egyptian vultures, were counted.<br \/>\nA complete version of the daily bird count and the total count is available on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifeneophron.eu\/#daily-migration\" target=\"_blank\">Sarimazi count website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cna.lpo.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/sarimaz.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"imagecache-largeur largeur\"><\/p>\n<p>This kind of project, reminding the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.batumiraptorcount.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Batumi Raptor Count<\/a>\u201d in Georgia, aims at describing and quantifying the migration of birds of prey. Moreover, counting birds in strategical zones is a cheap way to monitor migrating populations. In Sarimazi, the Egyptian vultures counted come mainly from Turkey and the Balkan peninsula. These populations number between 1000 and 2000 couples in Turkey and 80 couples in the Balkan peninsula.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cna.lpo.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/dsc4142w.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\u00a9 Bruno Berthelemy\" class=\"imagecache-largeur largeur\"> <br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notification to motivated volunteers :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifeneophron.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Life Egyptian Vulture Project<\/a> needs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifeneophron.eu\/#a-volunteer-opportunities\" target=\"_blank\">volunteers<\/a> to count migrating birds in autumn 2019 in Sarimazi. Several hundred Egyptian vultures fly over the bottleneck in just a month.
